The Things that are Bright

When night casts its dark shadow on all the land
Will the knight in shining armor take his stand?
The dragons will come swooping down into sight
Will the people stay and fight for what is right?

The sussurous of fire burning in their eyes
Razor sharp jaws and teeth and lies
The people raise the battle cry, "coming is the night!"
Will the people hold fast to the ever fading light?

They hold the banner of their King
Sweet voices through the air still sing
The penumbra of despair wraps its fingers tight
Is now the time to take flight?

They still fight to this day, they do
The men, the women, and the children too
But they smile in the face of their plight
For they have not let go of the things that are bright.

  1. That was lovely! It sounds kind of Arthurian - you know, the chivalrous king that will 'come again at the hour of need'.
